2010 Boston Marathon… again

A few winners, elite runners, and a story Boston.com missed.

114th Boston Marathon

2010 Boston Marathon #1 In all the years that I’ve been following the Boston Marathon, this certainly turned out to be one of the most exciting races I’ve seen.

First we had the come from behind very close finish in the wheelchair race by Ernst Van Dyk, his ninth win here in Boston, and the most wins held by any athlete in the event.  Next came Teyba Erkesso, who broke the ribbon ending her first ever running of Boston, and blowing the competition out of the water.

Finally Robert Cheruiyot, and no, not the same four time champion we’ve seen before, crosses the line in a record setting 2:05:52.  This actually breaks the record set by the previous Robert Cheruiyot from his run in 2006.  All in all, quite an exciting day.

Today’s picture shows champion Robert Cheruiyot fending off last years winner, Deriba Merga, at mile 23 in Brookline.  I’m thinking photo series for tomorrow.

Boston Marathon 2009

Wheelchair W8  In anticipation of tomorrow’s 114th running of the Boston Marathon, here’s a photo of last year’s event.  This was shot at mile 23, only 3.2 miles to go for this athlete.
