One night when I was still living in the North End, I couldn’t really get to sleep, just wasn’t tired for whatever reason. Around 2 a.m. I had an idea. Why not photograph the sunrise? I’ve never done it before, and it was only a couple hours away. I took a brief nap, grabbed my gear and started walking down Atlantic Ave. towards the waterfront.

I set up behind the Moakley Federal Courthouse facing Logan airport, figuring who the hell would be there at 4 o’clock in the morning to bug me. It was pretty cool standing there snapping away as the sky got brighter and brighter til the sun finally broke the horizon. If memory serves me right, I headed home around 6:30, just in time to see the city start to wake up as I’m ready to crawl back into bed. I haven’t photographed a sunrise since, and judging by how tired I am now, won’t be anytime soon. But one day I’ll do it again. In the meantime, sleep.
